I earned £22 last night
Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001 - 09:29 I wrote an entry yesterday evening but my computer managed to freeze just after I clicked the button... grrr. Anyhow. First day of work was hard and stressful, but I met some nice people who were reasonable about me not knowing stuff and helped me get along, and I have training Monday evening. I have an evil cold and would have not gone in last night if it hadn't been my first official night - actually (thank you God!) I didn't feel too bad once I was there, may have been the Benylin Day & Night my darling mother had bought for me. I unconsciously broke a couple of rules (and caused a couple of accidents!), and found it difficult to keep from completely breaking into tears whenever I did, although somehow I maintained the presence of mind to tell myself that you can hardly be to blame for breaking rules you didn't know about, and everyone has their fair share of clumsiness. A couple of nice things happened - a girl called Rashida (rash-ee-da) introduced herself, as did Stuart, who was 'hosting', and at the end of the evening as I was working away clearing the last few tables, one of the other girls came up to me and praised me for how well I was doing, which was a definite encouragement!! I had a walkie talkie (to communicate with Stuart, tell him when tables were free etc.), which was quite fun once I'd got an ear piece - it was difficult to make out what it was saying otherwise. Even so, apparently talking to myself in front of customers was a bit embarrassing (I was, of course, talking to the mic attached to my shirt). Anyways, stressful though it was, I have a lot to praise God for. If I can get through these first few shifts with my fears unfounded, I know I'm going to feel much better.
