One day holiday

So on Saturday, we gave Nicky a surprise party for her 18th, mwahahaha. You've no idea how hard it was keeping it in. Practically told everyone but Nicky! We'd been talking about presents a couple of weeks ago, and I said 'We'll surprise you', laughed evilly, and then had to carry on laughing evilly because I'd just realised what I said. Talk about close :-)

The guests were turning up at midday, Nicky and Jonathan (who knew about it) were to arrive at 1pm. When I wasn't helping to prepare, I was stressing 'What shall I do when I see her?' 'Is everything ready?' 'It's nearly time, everyone get outside! It's nearly time! Outside!' Et cetera. It was raining, and I was alternately laughing and stressing. We were having a barbecue - Clive had an large umbrella, the food and guests were under a waterproof gazebo ('Madam, I regret the gazebo, I sincerely regret the gazebo' - Tom Stoppard). My Uncle and Auntie, Andrew and Maria, were there with Sam and Jenny the twins aged 5, and Tim aged 4, as well as Nicola's cousin and her children (a baby and Fraser, 3), Nicola's Mum Yvonne and her partner Dave(sounds terribly PC, 'partner'), her uncle and his partner, her Nan and her partner (honestly, is anyone actually married in Yvonne's family? :-) ), Clive's sister, Nicky's Auntie Margaret, with her husband Brian and their two (grown-up) sons, one of whom was there with his partner (actually, she's young enough to be called girlfriend. So hah.), my Grandma and her husband Jim, and Nicky's friends Natalie and Keith. Phew. Grandad turned up later with his wife Ruth and their son Alex (12), as Amy (14) was off preparing her horse Gizmo for a show. Hope you got all that! Stephen sorted out the music using some of his flash compooter technology and his stereo. When Nicky and Jonathan turned up, I went to join the huddle under the gazebo and heard Clive saying that Nicky should come up to the garden, adn she saw us, and I took a picture with the digicam. She had her Dinesyland bag and apologised for not having presents for all of us :-) She gave me Minnie Mouse ears, which I resolutely wore all day, except when I lent them to Jenny and a couple of others.

The weather brightened up a bit, and the food was niiiice :-) although the Cajun chicken was HOT!! Beware if you use Jamie Oliver recipes. Ate too much salad, as my stomach complained later. Nicky also gave me some more vodka jelly, which was less strong and so tasted OK on its own. Grandad end up eating about half of it, I think. Minnie, my beloved cat, spent most of the time begging for food from Nicola's nan.

After a bit, Nicola, Jonathan, Keith, Natalie, Steve and I headed up to a pub in Chatham - had a good time and played a funny game of pool. Probably couldn't explain why it was funny, we just kept laughing at strange shots and jokes and things like that :-)

Natalie went home, and we went back to watch Stars in their eyes (ooh!). The woman doing Aretha Franklin should have won!!! Anyway. After that, the parents and us remaining yoof went to another pub (no-one got drunk, don't worry :-) ) and we had a nice time there as well. Then we all went home, and Jonathan and Nicola went home, and Keith was staying over, so we chatted for a bit. Um, until 2am. We both like sci-fi, fatal! :-)

Was tired during my driving lesson, and so I did some foolish things (as my Mum would say - she likes the word foolish). The thing was, I didn't feel very tired, but I knew I was - not drowsy, I guess.

But in a way I felt so much better for it - it was tiring, but not in the way schoolwork is. Refreshing.
