My advice to you
2001-05-19 - 23:14 This is my advice on living. My version of 'Everyone is free to wear sunscreen'. Yeah, I've only lived for seventeen years, but hopefully I've worked out some stuff already (the rest I plagiarised :-) ). Anyone older and wiser can correct me as they see fit. "Love God with all your heart, all your soul and all your strength." "Love your neighbour as you love yourself." There is only one rule for being you - be yourself. Do everything as you know it to be right and you cannot be hurt by criticism. Do what you know to be wrong and you will hurt others and yourself. There is no point in having enemies. If happiness is gold, then I'm afraid most safes are locked beyond your power to open them. Not that that matters, because you're an alchemist. Life is a competition, and the winner is the one who cares least about winning. Contentment is the only kind of richness worth having. Simple things please simple minds. Have a simple mind, and find joy in simple things. Dignity is worth nothing if all it means is losing childlike joy. It's not what happens, it's what you do about it. You have power over your life. You can choose what to do with it. When arguing with someone, imagine you are the one receiving your arguments. What do they sound like? A brave person can say 'I love you' and mean it. Remember what your parents taught you, listen to what you hear yourself teaching children. Follow those values - don't hit people, share, be friendly to everyone, eat sensibly and sleep when you're tired. Don't put something off if you have nothing better to do. You know it makes sense. If you want to know a person, the following list will tell you very little of worth about them: race, sex, religion, attractiveness, intelligence, talents, sexuality. Look at their actions and listen to their words. Don't complicate simple things. Don't simplify complicated things. Don't stop doing a hobby because you're bad at it. Read this. When you came into this world, you couldn't walk, talk, read, write, or do half the things you can do now. Everyone starts off bad at their chosen activity, it's an inevitable rule of life. When you see an opportunity to do good, do it. If not, make your opportunities. Everyone who said any inspirational words, accomplished great works, or alternatively did great cruelty or decided to cut people down, was human. All your friends, enemies and acquaintances are human, apart from the odd pet. Treat them as such. You can learn something from everyone you meet. Don't let arrogance and pride stop you. The one who receives is the one humble enough to open their hands. Right. That's enough profoundness for now. Anymore and I'd put my brother out of a job :-) Random word for today: << last entry ... next entry >> Interesting doughnuts - Sunday, Feb. 05, 2006 Blogging, why? - Friday, Feb. 03, 2006 Dreams, climate change - Friday, Feb. 03, 2006 In the shadows - Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006 |
