After Christmas

Meep...
Hi guys. I'm back again. I'm going to be getting home internet access soon, so with any luck you'll hear more from me! Aren't you glad...
My family got such a kick out of the fire I started. So nice to be appreciated. They are never going to let me forget it. Actually I was rather cheered at work today, when having screwed up something royally yet again (although not quite as exciting this time) I was setting it right and talking to Steph, who's been off work for ages ill. Apparently the story of my pyromaniac exploits really cheered her up... She apparently "laughed (her) arse off".

Christmas really was lovely... I saw all my family again, even a few I wasn't expecting to see, ate too much, played with the kids, and got to relax. New year was great too - I went to Oxford with Christina and Becky (who I met at Soul Survivor). I like all of Chrissie's friends. They're great.

But all this is tinged with sadness. My Great Grandma was really ill, especially throughout Christmas and New Year. She was in hospital as far back as on my birthday (December 3rd) but when I saw her then she was, though frail, quite alert. After Christmas, she seemed confused and forgetful and very frail and suddenly I actually could imagine her dying. She actually died on Sunday night - thankfully, she'd been moved to a hospice (I really hated her ward at the hospital, it was all dark and dingy and the nurses never have time to talk, as I should know since I've been a volunteer at the same hospital). And thankfully, she'd seen all her sons and her daughter (my Grandma) before she died. And I'm so glad that I went to see her Thursday last week - I'd been upset that she was so ill, and dreading seeing her worse. She was actually a little better, and said that no one had visited her (it's not impossible that she might have forgotten a visit, but still...). So I'm glad I saw her. I can't quite believe that I won't ever again. I hope someone told her about my starting a fire in the lab... it might have made her laugh :)

I'll be getting back with my new year's resolutions later... it's home time!

Random word for today: desert
