Why would a blind person want a watch?
Monday, Apr. 15, 2002 - 23:48 Gaah... it's been ages. The Internet's been down in our house, due to decorating. My new room has lovely peachy/apricot walls... and grey curtains. *sigh* Announcement - I do not hate my job. Wahey! Take a glance at this or this if this does not sound like a miracle. I don't love it but I don't hate it and I even sort of like some bits. One of the things I like is that some of the work is so unengaging I came daydream whilst doing them. Now that's efficiency. Another thing I like is the people there. Another thing I like is the food (I went through a phase of hating it... I like it again now), and another thing I like is that they finally remembered I need more training, and I'm pretty certain that when I'm properly a waitress I will like the tips. Plus the 'annoying co-worker' I mention in that first link above is now much less annoying and generally lovely. The only thing I would change is Stuart leaving :( Although this might be a good thing for me, because getting attached to him and him being gay, among other things meaning that we would not work out, led to a rather unhealthy position. Another thing I like is that when I'm upstairs and people don't start coming up until an hour into the shift, I'm being paid for standing around chatting and eating Smarties. Anyways, big thanks go to God :D For answering my prayers. On Sunday I had a difficult choice... I could get the bus to Church (parents couldn't give me a lift) or go home and finish my Biology Coursework. Tried the WWJD thing and ended up at a bit of an impasse. Jesus would not mess around with his teachers and would want to give his best to God intellectually, but worshipping God is the most important thing we can do. But then, I can worship God at home. But then, it's much easier to focus on God when other people are... And I didn't really want to give the parents the idea that I'm willing to sacrifice church for just any piece of work, as if church is not a major commitment. In the end, I did stay at home and do the work, although I had a worship time and read some of my Bible, and it was actually a pretty good worship time compared to my usual lately, probably due to the helpful reminder that God is watching over me! I'm not sure if it was the right thing or not. But the work's done now, and unlike last year's, it's looking reasonable... so big thanks to Nelson Thornes Publishers, but especially God for that. :) And Duck confessed to me today that he's worried that Christian Union will end up just the same as it ever was. I feel the same way. It's frightening, when we've stumbled so many times, it begins to look a bit hopeless. But this is all the wrong attitude, and exactly what 'him below' wants us to think. I know that if we rely on God, and let him do his work, and are willing to be totally obedient to him, we really can improve the current situation. I had chemistry today - I'm keeping an unofficial log of our investigation, just because amusing things always happen in Dr. C's lessons. For instance, today a rubber tube esaped the sink and poured water on the floor... the desk... the teachers' guide... my notes... Dr. C's coat... inside the drawers... Dr. C couldn't resist joking about it at intervals for the rest of the lesson. 'I have to assess the quality of your practical work... unfortunately, soaking everything doesn't come into the mark scheme.' And then one of the boys was praised for producing a perfect product after distilling the vinegar. It should have been tartaric and citric acid. Dr. C said it looked much better than the 'black treacle John had produce. When tested, the product had a pH of 11 - we suspect he distilled sodium hydroxide solution. :) I didn't see Rory much today, which is unusual, as he's stalking me, alledgedly. After lunch, I went to the library to try and find some information to put in the introduction to my biology coursework. I found very little, but did decide to get some books out. Richard Dawkins - The Blind Watchmaker - the televised version made me write that Evolution rant. I've already read some - his militant atheism actually makes it a really interesting read :) Plus he comes out with little revealing comments like 'I belive I do, more often than not, think of my readers as female, but that is my personal affair' Asimov himself praised it as 'a lovely book', but that might be because Dawkins quoted him in one of the chapters :) I also got out A Child's World by James Walvin - A social history of English Childhood 1800-1914, The blind side of Eden by Carol Lee - the Sexes in perspective, and a treatise on violence in society called 'I'll fight you!' by Ewan Huzarmi. Then I went home, and got a text from Sara with the startling news that she has quit school and moved in with Bryan! They sound happy. I hope it's for the best :) Oh yes, and when I got the internet back this evening, I had 12 messages in my inbox - eight of which were 'I changed my imood!' *sigh* And most of them were Jonathan :) Annoyingly, having the Dawkins book out is putting 'My Selfish Gene' by Catatonia in my head. Which was an entirely different book. Anyway, it's now Tuesday, so good night all :) Oh yes, and I still haven't gone out like I said I would. Getting transport is tricky and I haven't been putting effort into getting some, like I know I should. *Smacks own wrist* Random word for today: << last entry ... next entry >> Interesting doughnuts - Sunday, Feb. 05, 2006 Blogging, why? - Friday, Feb. 03, 2006 Dreams, climate change - Friday, Feb. 03, 2006 In the shadows - Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006 |
