Thoughts from a double chemistry lesson
2001-05-18 - 22:38 How does my mind work? Well, here's a running commentary on yesterday's chemistry lesson. Dunno why, for some reason I find my own butterfly mind amusing. -Right, I'm sure he explained this. -Was I listening? -I ought to listen more. -It's so noisy and yet no-one in this room is making a sound. It's like watching TV with the wrong soundtrack. -OK, is that order 2? I've never heard of order 4 -But that would make it order 3 and I've only heard of order 1 and order 2. -Why is Nadine asking me this? I don't know myself -I'm not going to get this done in time -The way Mr. JE moves his hands reminds me of an ape of some kind. -An orangutan? -But orangutans are huge and stocky and orange, and he's tall, skinny and wearing white. What kind of animal would he be? -A stick insect? -No, a grasshopper. -What's Dr. C? A rabbit maybe? -Best get down to work. -What's a Winchester Bottle? -Water bath? What water bath? -Oh, that water bath! -Suitable size beaker for a 1dm^3 rounded flask? 600cm^3 ought to do it. -Wait, wouldn't a 1dm^3 flask displace a decimeter cubed of water? I'd need more than a decimeter cubed beaker to put it in. But they don't make beakers that big. -Why has Mr. L (art teacher) gathered a bunch of poor lower-school students out in the cold outside? -Why am I bothered about it? -People look so strange when you can't hear what they're saying. -He looks so phoney. I mean, his arms are doing all his expressions for him. It's so exaggerated. It's so fake. Can any of his students see it? -Is he telling them off or are they going to do some drawing outside? -Wrong sort of weather for it, really. -He looks like a public speaker, or an evil overlord commanding his minions. He really needs a soundtack. -"You! You, scum-of-the-earth, you shal infiltrate Decker's troops and bring us information. You! You shall plant the bomb when the moment is right. And then we shall rule the world!" -Anyway, Chemistry. This flask. Is this question really relevant? Who cares? -What does he want me to do a graph of? Give me some data! You can see why I don't do too well in those lessons.
