Friends and Family, and squirrels
2000-11-08 - 21:25

Hello again...

Well, back to school today, and those damn headaches are persisting but never mind, I'll get over it eventually. Had psychology and biology, in which I learned that it is possible to get a fetish for cream cheese if you are bashed in just the right position on your head whilst having cream cheese pouring down your face, and also that fungi have no cell walls. Oh yes, and there are a bunch of sad stuffy higher middle class birdlovers who are obsessed with feeding birds but hate and loathe squirrels to a ridiculous degree, and insist on putting bird food out and finding ways to get rid of squirrels who also happen to like nuts. The squirrels are much cuter, much braver, much more agile and much much cleverer, because they can get at the bird food no matter the barriers. Birds are nice but frankly much more boring, and when I become a sad stuffy middle-class person I'm going to put squirrel food out. Fantastic animals.

I've finally read some of both of Nickie's (sorry, Nicky's) diaries. They are cool. Really deep and slightly more coherent that this load of tripe :-) I think I'll stick the links at the bottom of this entry, along with some other interesting sites.

Chris has been enthusing all day about the concert, as I knew she would, but it was OK as I didn't see her constantly, like many days back when I was doing GCSE (because we shared our biology, chemistry, physics, french/spanish, german, maths/stats, and music groups, (and our drop-out-of-graphics lesson) and now we share two subjects and no frees or keyskills. It sounds good, but everything she said was hilariously funny doesn't sound especially so :-)

In Nicky's fantastic diary (she's talented, this one) I seem to recall reading that copying is the best form of flattery, also a list of all her friends/aquaintances/family members, which seemed quite a good idea, because I've been thinking about them a lot recently, so here are all the people currently close to moi-

Nicola (Nickie/Nicky): My beloved sort-of step, sort-of half-sister, because her dad adopted me, but her mum didn't, because my mum is married to him. Get it? She is a cool, funny, wonderfully talented person. She's very tolerant (I don't know why this comes to mind), she's a good writer but prone to be sentimental (don't hit me sis :-) She has a boyfriend called Gavan and masses of friends in London.

Chris: Chris is my best friend in the whole world, along with some others, but she's been in the spot for the longest. She is my compadre (or commadre, laugh at that, linguists) whatever that means, in Christ. She is the friend who calls the most and notices most of my foul moods. On the other hand, she notices it when I'm merely 'pensive' so maybe this is by default :-) She's another stupidly talented person, musically, lyrically, creatively. We have been friends for an incredibly long time, (although we did have our bad patches in primary school, mainly because I wasn't a Christian at the time) and her house is probably the house I've visited most, after Grandad's, whose is right near the school, and which I possess a key to. I can tell her practically everything, and hopefully vice versa.

Sara: Sara is probably the friend I worry most about, being a bit of a worrier by nature. She is very friendly and tolerant, and her past life's been full of crap, so she's a right to occasionally be less than cheerful. She has good taste, liking Terry Pratchett and rock music, and she's a good revision companion, even if the exam we revised together was the one which earned me my second lowest grade :-) Still it was good fun, and she's always hospitable. Saz (or Sassy, or sassy_saz) and I met practically by accident one day and discovered we were both slightly insane, so we've been friends ever since :-) Sara is very creative and good to talk to, and also good fun to get lost with :-) even if she does have conversations via text-messaging whilst we are walking in a quiet, technology free-zone.

Abi: A dear dear friend whom I once, horror of horrors, thought annoying. An intelligent, thoughtful, and fascinating person beneath a very weird exterior that is strangely lovable. Abi is very considerate, but although she loves people, she doesn't love herself very much, being a martyr to SI. If anyone ever needed a spiritual mirror, Abi comes into the queue, probably next to Sara, pretty near first place. She is sooooooo much fun to be with, getting hyper on air, and joining with me in providing hell (er, that is, musical entertainment) to the (un)fortunates of a Spanish trip and many others besides. Abi was originally a friend of Sara's after coming to England from France, and that's how I met her.

Chelle (or more properly, Michelle): My favourite punk, Chelle is another great friendly person, never letting me feel unwanted or unloved. She's a manic Manics fan and a serious good laugh.

Elaine: My companion in registration and Chemistry, Elaine is possibly the sanest person I know, or at least the quietest, both of which are rather resting. She's a great listener and she does talk, although quietly, and she's always amazingly punctual, which is great although a little annoying when I'm doing my 'half an hour early' trick.

Eric: My friend from old religious debates, and oddly enough, we were, and still are, on opposite sides. Still, a fellow cat lover and being such a lovely person, Eric is one of the best blokes around. He's my oldest friend who is in no way family or in my ward at the hospital, at forty-something-ish, 45 I think, but I've lost count. He's partly blind, and also single, which is a great shame, and currently residing in Liverpool, writing to me by letter. Eric is a great listener and comforter, and phones quite a lot too.

Family: My family is a wacky bunch, full of halves and steps and weddings are fairly popular. I live with my mum and my dad, Clive, who is Nicky's dad, and Stephen my beloved and insane brother (to the same parents as Nicky), who'll be moving out fairly soon, we hope :-) My Grandma is nice, but prudish in her way, with a things about dieting, she is married to Jim who is funny. My Grandad, a very generous but scatty person, divorced from my Grandma, married Ruth, who is nearly as young as his oldest daughter, my mum, and gave him two more children, Amy and Alex, who are both younger than me. Alex is in Year 7 of my school. My other uncle is Andrew, who married Maria and is father to the twins, Sam and Jenny, and to Tim, who are all adorable. My great grandmother lives alone but goes to Age Concern, so she's happy. The rest of the family we hardly ever see.

That's it - maybe I'll give you some proper news tomorrow:-)

Love,

Helen
