A Fresher Start
Tuesday, Oct. 08, 2002 - 14:04 A computer! Whoo! Saturday seems like an age ago. I have to be quick with this entry too, because I'm in the computer room and I have to go register with my department later. Uni is fun. My college is cool - it's got a reputation for being scummy but all the Second and Third Years in the college go on about how it's the best college, and to be honest, I'm very glad I'm there, the corridors are linked up and it's all very social. I was rather daunted on Sunday by the sheer amount of things we have to do - now all I have to do is register in my department, pay for my accomodation and bank my loan cheque. Hmm. Alcohol. I don't know if the other colleges are as mad as ours (actually I suspect not!) but we're drinking and going to bars practically every night (ie. twice so far). I don't have a problem with alcohol but I'm surprised at how much life here seems to revolve around it. I've got a reputation already. Yesterday a guy was trying to remember all our names, and he turned to me and said, 'You're the sensible one.' Noooooo! I had cheese on toast today. We have a really awful cooker, but it's still better than a camping cooker. The freedom is amazing. It's so nice to be able to buy things you like to eat and then eat them and not worry about anyone else. I suspect that I'll miss home food soon though. My parents are soppy. Well, they're not. Actually they're lovely. They've both texted and e-mailed me already. And apparently they miss me. This is my third day away, and surely Sunday doesn't count? Good moments Meeting our STYCs (Second and Third Year Contacts). They help our corridor out and show us where to go. They're very cool and Mim is a Christian. Laura (on my corridor) calling me 'Helly' randomly. She told me it was my new nickname. Sorry, Laura, too late :) The induction talk for the Student Union had several amusing videos. Sitting up until late in our college tutor's room chatting. Eating a Ritz cracker with raspberry jam and red leicester cheese, after telling Catherine I thought it would be disgusting. For the record, it was delicious. Making cheese on toast and being told I looked professional. I have drunk wine/champagne out of... A full length glass A plastic cup A mug An actual wine glass (shock horror!) The bottle I have been drunk... Well I felt a bit tipsy on Sunday night but I felt uncomfortable considering I was nervous anyway and soon enough sobered up. Drinks I have drunk during drinking games Wine An empty bottle of Archers Aqua Peach... well I tried :) Coke. Haha :D New friends I have made Our STYCs - Mim, Nic, Tanya, Linda. My corridor - Laura, Chloe, Clare, Lucy, Emily, Stuart (fourth year Chemistry), Eleanor (the tutor). Next Corridor - Catherine, Sarah, Jane, Liz. Downstairs - Steve, Neil, Andy, Peter, Simon, Chris, Ian... and prolly some others. Other colleges - Ryan, Russ, Zoe. I also met Helen C, one of the other Christian Helens in my college. yay :) Anyway, I'd better go now, bye bye :) Random word for today: Disorientated << last entry ... next entry >> Interesting doughnuts - Sunday, Feb. 05, 2006 Blogging, why? - Friday, Feb. 03, 2006 Dreams, climate change - Friday, Feb. 03, 2006 In the shadows - Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006 |
