A hippy sort of evening
Saturday, Jun. 21, 2003 - 11:23 The porter was out when I went to get my package (yes that book). So I decided to write a diary entry first :) Yesterday was interesting. After revising four equations (that's really all I need to do for electrochemistry...) I went to Chris/MrJeff's birthday party. Meal in a vegetarian restaurant. Well Matthew ate three mouthfuls and was feeling sick, but the people still made him pay despite the fact that it was a buffet, and they would have probably provided just as much food for fewer people. Grrr. So we left, and decided to go find Matthew's friend Al (he's my friend too, but Matthew and Al are like a partnership that was just waiting to happen...) who would be out on the fields for the summer solstice celebration that various pagans would be attending... Well I say pagans, Al referred to them as 'faux pagans' and Matthew happily called them the 'Lib Dems of the religious world'... They had a fire going and had brought lots of soft drinks and snacks and things. What I like about being surrounded by pagans (of the sort that go to our university anyway) is that none of them really care what you believe, if you say you're a Christian they'll look at you for second as if wondering whether you're about to duly inform them of the error of their ways, then when it becomes apparent that you're not, they relax and don't mind. It somehow seems a little unfair that a pagan can feel intimidated when surrounded by Christians, but the other way around happens much less frequently, if at all. The evening got me thinking about God, and how he's far too big for any of us to understand. Christians, so it seems, far too often believe that they understand God completely... In truth I don't think any of us has barely a clue :) Later on, we went back to Al's house and listened to Tom Lehrer. Tom Lehrer rocks... I can't believe it. There's a fanfic on Fanfiction.net with the note 'OotP spoiler'... I could never move that quickly :) Random word for today: garrulous << last entry ... next entry >> Interesting doughnuts - Sunday, Feb. 05, 2006 Blogging, why? - Friday, Feb. 03, 2006 Dreams, climate change - Friday, Feb. 03, 2006 In the shadows - Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006 |
