Something worthwhile - an odd musing entry of few lines on the value of homework
2001-01-16 - 20:51

Mum realised I was online, and yelled up, "Have you finished your homework then?" I thought about this. It was like on 20 Questions when you can't say yes or no, so you opt for something less definite.

"Probably."
"Doubtful." (This is my favourite, although I used 'probably')"Usually I do."
"Depends on what you mean by homework."
"I've partly finished it."
"Sometimes I have."
"Maybe."
"Unknown."
Or alternatively, "Irrelevent."

It surprised me how nonchalantly I said, "Probably." I really can't be bothered. What used is this gonna have in the grand scheme of things? An IT Key Skill qualification? I'm feeling anarchic. I'd rather be off doing proper work, like cheering people up. I'd like to do that for a living. Or working for a charity or something. I'd like that. Maybe I should start looking around for stuff.

Alternatively, I could just work really hard and become a doctor. That would be good, I guess, and I wouldn't have to write stupid English Lit essays in Uni. Or even next academic year. That is a thought. If I do this now, I won't have to bother so much later. Hmm, this is a fight between my hunger for doing stuff that is very worthwhile in future, or just doing stuff that is kind of worthwhile now. OK, I know what I'll do. I'll go write a bit of stuff on Manzanar, but not be ridiculous and complete the entire project in one night. Maybe a paragraph, but that's something, and it'll stop me feeling guilty a bit.

Stuff I need to fill you in on
-Abi, Saz, Chelle etc. and the Manic Street Preachers Concert
-the Disturbing Video
-other interesting stuff.

I'll try to come back later tonight, but I have to write about Munson and Pearl Harbor (if any English people correct my spelling of 'Harbor' again I shall blow a fuse) and internment. See the link below on Japanese Americans. It is what I am mainly using.
