Poetica-Collab - a sonnet on the theme of 'hope'.

So what matters?

One hopes to receive a special birthday gift,
One hopes to come first in their particular race,
One hopes someone else will cover their shift,
One hopes to fit in, to keep a good face.
One hopes for fun, and a car that is flash,
One hopes to catch the bus, and get there on time,
One hopes to be rich, with a great load of cash,
One hopes to reach the top of the ladder they climb.

One hopes for shelter as they sleep on cold ground,
One hopes for food on their empty plate,
One hopes for life when death lurks around,
One hopes for love in a world full of hate.
We think our small hopes are the reasons we live,
But there’s much greater meaning in the hope we can give.
