Back at last
2001-02-22 - 19:04 I'm back from Grandma's... Great Grandma talked about when she was pregnant. Apparently her father (my great great grandad Perrin) knew. Great Grandad had just gone off to war and her mother kept bothering her. "You ought to be careful with the baby Isobel." "I'm not pregnant!" "Your father says you are. Sees it in your eyes." She lived in a flat she got bombed out of. One day she got in and there was rubble all over her bed. Mice ran overhead in the cellar where they sheltered. It was strange. I could just visualise the twenty-three year old woman she was talking about, as if somehow the memory was passed on and just waiting to be remembered. And apparently Great great grandma Marshall was a terribly jealous woman. Just think, I have some of her genes. Quite nice to spend the time there, really. As usual, didn't get enough work done. Thought about various stories I have written or am writing. One I'm writing is about the kind of neighbourhood where every child knows each other, and the shops are just down the road. It's the kind of place I always wished I lived in, because it used to take ages getting to and from the shops and all my schoolfriends lived far away. And then I thought, do I generally write stories in idealised settings? I guess I do. I put in lots of images from stuff I enjoy, put right stuff that I wish I could do with my life. And then again, some of them are the kind of stories where my problems come out and aren't really solved. Like the one where Holly meets her estranged father, and he's as bad as he could be. My predictions for the Braithwaites. Virginia doesn't die, Graham isn't dead (actually, I saw the trailer yesterday, I've kind of cheated) Sarah stands Phil up just before the wedding, Marion and Pauline come back at Alison's hour of need, Virginia and David make friends at last, and David and Alison get back together. Oh, and Megan runs back to Dorking, and Graham gets sent to jail because he is bankrupt. And Tamsin gets back with Virginia.
