Wonderful family, almost wonderful driving
Monday, Sept. 30, 2002 - 14:42 Thanks Hsui and Philip for your guestbook entries! I must get back to you at some point :) My family rock :) Honestly, now I'm leaving I just figured out (again :) ) just how lucky I am to have them. Yesterday was Excuse for a Family Get-Together #15, otherwise known as a 'Goodbye Helen' party. Mum and Clive both love any excuse to have family round. Or anyone, for that matter. At Stephen's birthday a couple of weeks back, the neighbours across the road saw him cooking and jokily asked if they could come, and Clive invited them over. I think they were rather embarrassed... lol... but it was nice to get to know them a bit, and once they were sitting down, they were at ease. Plus it meant the cake I made for Stephen cut really easily into enough pieces. I just wanted to see my family. I expected they'd probably get me cards, but I didn't expect the sheer piles of stuff I was donated... Grandma got me shampoo, washing up liquid, some flannels, sanitary towels, toothpaste, a toothbrush (electric! lol... actually it was reduced and cheaper than the normal ones, even cooler :) ), a soap dish, some soap... and probably some other things I forgot... Grandad got me four folders, a large box - A4 size, and a handy case thing with a pad inside that's easy to carry around and has space for a pen (and unfortunately knocks the spots off my Danger Mouse folder I got for a similar purpose :) ). Andrew and Maria got me money and my small cousins, worried I'd forget them (!) made sure I had a photo of them all. Actually, Sam, Jenny and Tim aren't that small anymore! The twins are six now, and Tim is five. Great Grandma gave me money too, also hugged me so hard I couldn't breathe (the rest of my family also do this, but I didn't think Great Grandma had that much strength in her!!) and the wise advice - 'No drugs, no drinking, no smoking, and say no to any men!' lol! Now I'm just trying to figure out how serious she was. Knowing her, not much... *smiles* They're such lovely people though, and not just because they give me presents! Maria encouraged me to stick at it, Nicky and Jonathan contributed a bottle of Champagne (yay!). Oh yes, and Steve upgraded my browser on my new computer to IE 6. He's handy to have around ;) hehe, I feel loved... My second driving test is tomorrow - I had a lesson today, drove calmly and competently for a while until Carolyn told me she was going to give me a mock test. Panic. Well, I did the most brilliant bay park I'd ever done, and then proceeded to fail it on a couple of things I haven't done since last year sometime. Or maybe before then. Serious case of nerves! She told me to get some calming medicine she'd heard of, so I went to the chemist's and the woman behind the counter asked the pharmacist for 'those things you give to people who have driving tests'. He wished me good luck, so did she, and hopefully if I can relax, I'll pass. I'm really confident that I can drive now, it's just making sure I'm not too stressed. Incidentally, the same pharmacist gave me my prescribed ear drops once and mouthed 'Are these for you?' What a wind-up merchant... :) Random word for today: Pliable << last entry ... next entry >> Interesting doughnuts - Sunday, Feb. 05, 2006 Blogging, why? - Friday, Feb. 03, 2006 Dreams, climate change - Friday, Feb. 03, 2006 In the shadows - Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006 |
