The pleasure/pain theory applies to restaurants
Sunday, Nov. 04, 2001 - 20:00

OK, my new job - so far, I clear and clean tables and show people where to sit in the restaurant. Does this sound easy? Well, it's easy except that there's so much of it! Loads of tables to clear, sometimes about a large queue building up at the door, all needing to be told waiting times if there are no tables free, and telling other members of the team how many we need a table cleared for. I will never look at a restaurant in the same way again. All those people having a nice relaxing meal make hard work for the rest of us!! I'm not a waitress yet, but I will be. The female manager told me to ask someone to show me the layouts and pick up table numbers etc... I'm a little nervous about this, during busy time this would be rather a big favour to ask someone I hardly know. That's me I'm afraid! On my mini shift on Saturday it was OK to ask people where to put things and what to do as I was so obviously new, but this advantage will deteriorate pretty quickly, so I can only hope I learn everything as soon as possible.

Chatted with Lois for a bit tonight, which was nice :-)

Now I'm off to do a victory run on Stephen's shirts. Ah yes... those good old days when ironing was my only source of income...

PS. Liv, if you're reading this, I will get back to you! I did have a quick peek at your diary and had a chuckle at your clever piece commenting on life being like a box of chocolates. Now why didn't I think of that?
