Lent is too commercialised... :)

Dougsoc AGM last night, most amusing although Matthew was a bit upset because he didn't get Press & Publicity Officer (or 'Postage and Packaging') - Sian did. I think he felt better when he realised that more people voted for him than just him.

I got the role I coveted - 'Toastmaster General' - ie. because it involves no work other than offering a toast to the deity at the beginning of committee meetings :)

Gah, I'm starving. Well, it is Ash Wednesday, but I'm not starving spiritually, I just need to go get some food.

I'm always mixed about Lent. On one hand, it seems like a bit of a silly thing to look on it as 'the time in which we give up stuff', and it irritates me that it's often used simply to diet (you know how I feel about them!) but... it seems like a good opportunity for reflection.

So... here is a list of things you could do during Lent (and beyond - of course ;) )

- take up some volunteer work: you could do conservation, hospital work, kid's work (remember to get police checked! :) ), visit old people's homes and ask to help out, etc.

- make the effort to be nice to someone you really don't like/respect.

- switch to fair trade coffee/tea/chocolate.

- give some money each week to the good cause of your choice.

- resolve to spend a little time every day with someone who'll benefit from it.

See, Lent can be fun :)

Also I realised that when I go home I can go back to Faith and Light! yippee!

Right, I would write more, but I'm off to get my unspiritual body off to have some pasta. Mmm, pesto.

Random word for today: Pasta
