Of love and cola
Tuesday, Feb. 05, 2002 - 18:13 Interesting. How is it that when I go to discos, I end up having a boy tag after me for at least a few days afterwards? The last was Matt, who I didn't know at all, and still don't, unless football and computer games are the sum of his personality. This boy... well, that's a rather more interesting story ;-) It was Christina's 18th birthday party on Saturday - excellent party! I didn't get a slow dance with the person I wanted to (hmm, that's a long story and I doubt you'll hear any more of it...), so ended up slow-dancing with Rory (after explaining my general frustratedness!!). Rory has a crush on me. He's following me around everywhere. He's telling me we should get together. He told Mark off for insulting 'My Helen'... It's actually very cute, in an unnerving kind of way :) Anyways, I told him no, and that he wouldn't enjoy going out with me, because of my general attitude about sex etc, but he still appears besotted. Duck made some comment about how Rory seems to be going through the same phases as him - both went out with another Helen... and Duck briefly had a crush on me too :) *sigh* It's actually quite annoying. I almost wish I could go back to hanging out solely with girls, although from being close friends with a lesbian, that isn't without its love/crush related problems either. I really ought to get around to actually buying I Kissed Dating Goodbye by Joshua Harris. It might cheer me up. In other news, Dr A decided to tell our class that we're all moulded by capitalist society with no personality of our own. We got quite indignant about this, but it was only five minutes before the end of the lesson so we didn't get a chance to adequately defend ourselves. During my free period I read New Scientist, articles on attraction (hmmm...) and an interesting article on sharing of information etc, and copyleft - the ruling that an article/idea is for free distribution so long as anyone who uses it also makes it clear that the article/idea is for free distribution. Through that, I found, of all things, the recipe for cola online. Think I'll make some, just to laugh at big corporate companies :) (I don't even like Coke that much...) After that I, still fuming about what Dr. A had said, decided to write a response essay (honestly, I do this all the time. All right, so I've never intended on giving my rant to the person who annoyed me unless it's online, but what the heck). Ended up printing out this entry for ideas but I didn't get around to writing anything but 'fashion is more bunk than General Studies' and I figured that probably wouldn't be the most tactful thing to put on something I was addressing to a teacher. Later on, Sara and I were sitting around doing Chatham girl impressions, and when Dr. A walked past, I couldn't resist, so I greeted him in a similar fashion. He stared at me. 'I been shaped by capilist 'ciety, innit!' I called to him. 'Yes, absolutely,' he responded, before retreating to his office, no doubt to rescue his sanity with some strong coffee, if he drinks coffee. Probably not, seeing as he's a teetotal vegetarian with an affinity for raw green veg, coffee would break the trend somewhat. Later still I saw him trying to break up a playfight and just had to remark 'It's the violence inherent in the system'. At church on Sunday, Dave (minister) talked about discipleship. Asked us to sum it up in one word... Roy suggested 'teachability', and whilst I'm not entirely sure that's a word, I like what it means. Someone who is 'teachable' implies someone who is open, searching for knowledge, humble and willing to improve. I want to be like that. I need to remind myself what I'm passionate about - God and his love - and also to remind myself that I need not be afraid, because his power's working in me. Why do I let myself forget how awesome he is?
