I HAVE MONEY!!!

Thank you Student Loan People!

OK, now I have to pay my share of the heating/gas/phone line rental, pay for my shopping and decide whether I can bear to buy a ticket for an SU event tonight... My housemates are going but now I actually have to pay for stuff... eek!

I went to church yesterday! I didn't end up going to the church I've been having dilemmas about because they've changed location but I went to another church in the evening.

It's a big Anglican/Evangelical/Charismatic type church that ironically enough I started going to when I first came to York but found the late Sunday nights a bit of a drag and had pretty much given up on the possibility of ever getting close friends (I suspect even after finals, first term will still have been my most difficult term). But last night I couldn't even comprehend what my problem had been...

I wandered in late and was a little miffed that the welcoming people didn't seem to want to help me find a seat. But then I wandered in and saw Lois and Karen! So I sat down with them and said hello to some York St. John's people. The service was great. The sung worship was very lively and - miracle - they all seemed to be songs that I know! And the sermon was on the Sabbath, talking about how important it is to have time set aside to remember God's goodness and give thanks, to rededicate ourselves, and of course to just have a rest :) Afterwards we went for hot chocolate in the church hall and then to the pub. And then I walked home with three Christian Union people, one of whom turned out to be a guy I'd had a student lunch with at the church I've been angsting about. He said he and his girlfriend go to that church in the morning and the big Anglican church in the evening. So dunno, will go along in the morning next week (or poss. the week after...) and see what I think. I'm quite happy to just settle at the Anglican one...

I feel I wasn't entirely clear in my dilemma entry. So, in short: I went to a church. I don't really want to go back. I feel it would be disloyal to leave on a whim. I don't want to judge them out of prejudice. In fact, there were things I liked about them. (Being in a small church might be good if I do want to start some kind of outreach project) But there are also things that I find worrying about them. There.

Well, Matthew just called and wants to meet me in town this afternoon. And I need to do some work and send some e-mails. So have a nice afternoon :)

Random word for today: mirth
