Well, in my opinion...
Friday, May. 23, 2003 - 14:55 Grr. OK, campus media organisation want a student's opinion on 'student apathy'. Guy from campus media organisation asks me if Matthew can give one. Matthew is going away. Well will I, then? Yes, all right. I meet up with Matthew, we go chat to another member of said organisation. Matthew arranges so that he can do it by phone. Great. I offer myself as a back-up plan. What am I told? Oh, I'm not a member of a political party and they want politically balanced views. So better to get another Liberal Democrat in. So just because I'm not a member of a political party I can't give an opinion?? I know why there's so much student apathy. Because it's so cliquey and partisan and... grr. It's a bunch of overgrown kids playing their own political little game and pretending it means so much, that when someone else tries to get involved they find that things are swamped in petty issues, leaving the things that average students care about on the wayside. I know that they weren't trying to be partisan (said organisation are actually my favourite campus media organisation, partly for that reason) or cliquey, or whatever, but honestly, show some sense. Doesn't matter anyway, I'm going to Gilbert and Sullivan Society tonight. So pah! :) Will write again later. BTW, thanks Morti and Erin for your guestbook signings, don't really have time now to comment but they were v. interesting. If anyone else has any insights re. last entry, please do tell. Later editing: my rant actually wasn't really justified, apparently they had a Conservative speaking and needed someone from another political party. Cause that's the law. Annoying, but true.
