Old ground, new ground

It's Wednesday already! It's funny reading old entries from when I first started writing this diary, when I used to update everyday. Unfortunately, I can't write that much now... for one thing, I don't have internet access at home, so here at work it depends on me writing in the lunch hour or when I don't have any work to do. And now I have so many things to write about, but generally can't write about any of them when they're fresh on my brain.

At the weekend, I went to see my darrrling sister to pick out bridesmaid dresses for her wedding. Got some lovely bargains, as she will attest, and it was fun trying on all those dresses :) Jonathan (her husband to be :) ) kindly gave me a lift to the station and I went up to York. Mmm, I'd forgotten how long and expensive that train journey is. I'm still mystified as to why a return only costs a pound more than a single though.

So I saw Matthew again, which was lovely. It was weird seeing him in person since we've spoken on the phone so much but not seen each other for about three months. It was nice to relax with him and his housemates - I miss my housemates, and I miss actually having housemates, so it was good settling down to DS9 and Futurama (why was Futurama cancelled? The Simpsons has been on forever!) with Matthew, Chris, Richard and Rachel. Unfortunately, out of my old housemates, the only one I saw was Laura - I did see Sian (who spent a lot of time at my house seeing Keith :) ) and totally forgot to ask how her job was going (sorry Sian!) but didn't see Keith, Chris W or Sarah... sigh.

I also did some mucho important things, like pay my tuition fees (hey, it was before the deadline!) and give my contact details to Biology... I also saw Cat, she is still as enthusiastic about the Bible as she was last time I saw her, but I think she now at least believes I'm a proper Christian. Meeting Christina and her exuberant God-loving ways might have helped her to that conclusion :)
I came back on Monday night.

I really miss University and all that. I know this year will give me lots of valuable skills, and I also know that by the end of it I won't want to leave, but it's hard seeing term go on wihtout me - I spoke to G and Sarah, two fellow biochemists, and they're doing work for their projects. They'll have left when I get back. It seems wrong just being a visitor, passing through and not really being a part of anything...

I am one of the crappiest Christians in existence. I am still embarrassed to say I'm going to do Christian events or go to church or whatever. Good to know that God still loves me, but hey, I'm such a rubbish evangelist... There's a Christian group at work who meet up on Wednesday lunchtimes... I was too timid to mention I was going to the meeting to my colleagues, and so headed off shyly without telling anyone. Liz (in my team) told me they'd thought I was going with them, but didn't ask where I went. Sigh. I like the Christian group though. They're lovely - and there's a range of ages which is quite remarkable when you consider that the average age on an employee here seems to be about 25...

Last night I went to see a rugby match! I went with Liz and Frida (from my team) and Tom (nearby) and Simon (friend of Liz). It was chilly, and I have trouble comprehending the rules, but it was still more interesting than football (note to Americans: that's real football, not American football, which I've heard is rather like rugby but with more armour). As I see it, you have two teams. One team is dressed in dark kit. The other team is dressed in pastel pajama type colours. With matching socks. They aim to get the ball down to one end of the pitch using as much violence as possible. 'Tackling' means pulling a guy to the floor and then leaping on top of him. The referee blows the whistle at random points and occasionally sends people off for inflicting violence too cheerfully. It makes me wonder how 'Touch Rugby' is supposed to work... Frida says that instead of all the leaping on top of each other, tackling just involves touching them. But do they then have to give up the ball? Or what?

I like Liz and Frida a lot but we don't have much in common. It's strange, everyone in my team seems to be into keeping fit (I'm going to be brave and go to the gym tomorrow). I find it easier to talk to Jayne and Becky (my friends from the bus) than most of my team. Sigh. But I still like them, and will try new things with them. I'm sure we'll find common ground eventually :)

Random word for today: exegesis
