Lucy and Steve - I'm sure many happy years of married bliss await you... *snigger* :o)

Aside from learning that Lucy and my beloved brother are now apparently joined by holy wedlock, I have had an interesting and rather full day. Double chemistry to start off with - buffer solutions!! Add loads of alkali and it's still acidic!! Sorry. It was just kinda funny. For some odd reason, Elaine, Nadine and I took delight in pouring copious quantities of alkali into an unbuffered solution of HCl and watching the indicator change colour... yay.

Invasion was on at lunch - mostly Mrs. Cook's form (whose formroom we hold it in) but although they were utterly crazy, it was a pretty good opportunity to chat, and Chris especially, with her WWJD necklace, got some good conversation.

Double free period after that - ideal time to look at diaries etc., as well as do a crossword with Rory. It's weird, Rory and I actually get on rather well; we don't have masses in common so don't ask me how. Except that we are both hopeless at cryptic crosswords and mildly reasonable at quick crosswords. He thinks that we could solve all the problems in the Taliban with subliminal messaging. He actually bought The Times today instead of The Sun. Ended up examining pictures of the entrants for this year's Turner Prize. Personally, I'm vouching for The lights turning on and off, a white room with lights that go on and off. It's so wierd and oddly abstract that it should win, I tell you!!!

Christian Union. I was doing 'talky bit'. Good worship - interesting choice of songs, too. My talky bit wasn't the greatest in the world, *sigh*. But... well, I'll do better ones. Then, to Grandad's... where I ate dinner, watched Star Trek: The Next Generation in which Wesley was wearing an orange Marks and Spencer jumper, Tasha had hallucinations of her cat, and Jean-Luc told Riker off for interrupting his daily crouching exercises. Well... that was Amy's interpretation anyway... actually his odd behaviour was due to hallucinating his mother, and for some reason this involved crouching in a corridor...

And then the good bit. Ruth (Grandad's wife) took me to the venue of my new voluntary work (and not a day too soon!); it's called Faith and Light which is a club for people with learning difficulties/mental disabilities. I thought it was for children, but actually it was for adults, so never mind eh? :-) Being new I was shy about what I was doing (and found no need to feign that confidence I wear for job interviews etc, phew), but it was OK, the lady running it introduced me, and before I knew it, a man was hugging me - his name is Martin and according to Linda (who told me about Faith and Light and who invited me there), he hugs and kisses everybody! This actually didn't scare me very much; weird, really, how I'm scared of my new job but strangers hugging me is perfectly fine!! Probably the best thing was how I felt immediately accepted by the people there - all right, so we didn't talk very much (we watched a video for a bit), but there was a lot of trust and hospitality there - I think they're going to teach me a lot. We prayed at the end, and said the Lord's Prayer - traditional words! As soon as I can I'm going to suggest doing something about that... what are 'trespasses'? 'Hallowed'? It's good that it is a traditional part of the evening (at least that's the impression I got!) but I think that the strange words make it rather aloof... It would be good to have a version in everyday language, if that would be feasible.

I think song wise, if they don't sing it already, they'd like 'Hey Lord, O Lord'. Hmm, well, early days yet!
