Random stuff, as it were
Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005 - 21:44

OK, some random stuff I've been meaning to post for a while.

The Second Doctor
You are the Second Doctor: Affable, impish, and
fond of simple pleasures as well as simple
pranks. Your mischievous exterior camouflages a
powerful mind and a great deal of courage.
Although you care nothing for appearances, you
place a high value on the bonds of true and
lasting friendship.

Which Incarnation of the Doctor Are You?

Cool, huh? And to think I've never actually seen any 2nd Doctor episodes (care for a video night, James?).

I've been reading Anne of Green Gables, and the sequel Anne of Avonlea (by L. M. Montgomery), lately. Because I know that being readers of this diary you all desperately want to imitate me in all things, you too can read these books, and for free! Just go to Project Gutenberg. There seem to be lots more sequels, too.

You can see the text of Anne of Green Gables here, and the text of Anne of Avonlea here.

I love Project Gutenberg. Will have to download all the sequels (and work out what order they're in, too) and a few other books (like the unabridged version of Les Miserables).

Oh yes, and an Internet meme:

Leave your name (in the guestbook or in notes) and
1. I'll respond with something random about you.
2. I'll tell you what song/movie reminds me of you.
3. I'll pick a flavor of jello to wrestle with you in.
4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me.
5. I'll tell you my first/clearest memory of you.
6. I'll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you.
8. If I do this for you, you must post this on your journal. You MUST. It is written

I got it from "Ampersand" who tells me:
1) You seem to like G&S songs
2) The Gondoliers
3) take-away flavour
4) How about some garlic bread?
5) Probably the first dougsoc meeting, although my memory from that night isn't particularly clear for some reason...
6) Black swan
7) What are your plans following graduation?

To his credit, he did tell me via MSN messenger that he was having trouble thinking of an animal.

Another thing I've been meaning to post - a link to a highly entertaining "Harry Potter is Evil" type essay. I'm convinced it's satire or else the writer is actually insane. It's called The Immaculate Conception as Perverted in the Pagan Harry Potter Books. It's based around Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, drawing a really disturbing comparison with Mary's conception of Jesus.

Favourite quotes:
"In England, the saying every Tom, Dick and Harry is highly popular and in this case alludes to the omnipresence of God in our world."
"The terms green eyes and pickled toad should be enough to raise the alarm bells in the mind of any true Christian"
" In a particularly distasteful and lewd display, Potter tries to tempt the rightfully furious Angel by raising his pant leg and showing him his nude ankle. In this way the Harry Potter books contribute to the hidden gay agenda. When this temptation is refused, he has a malignant house spirit who embodies all the evils of stem-cell research curse the angel down."

If anyone takes this stuff seriously, I would be severely disturbed.

Oh yes, and ages ago Hsiu tagged me to do one of those meme thingies. It was supposed to involve mentioning your six favourite songs of the moment, but I actually haven't listened to music properly in ages. Hmm. So I don't know, visit the page and start the meme yourself, you know you want to.

And now back to your regularly scheduled angsting:

The nice thing about me never being bothered to change anything is that I'm easy to find. I have one mobile number. I have a diary nearly five years old. I have an e-mail address I've had since I was 17. I can still accept mail at the same address that I've been at for eight years.

Forgive me for being intolerant, but sometimes it'd be handy if other people were as contactably conservative (haha, great term, don't you think?). And didn't have weird parents. I mean, I'd like to call Abi but I don't think I'm up to facing her ultra unhelpful parents ("she's not here." "When will she be back?" "I don't know." "Is she still in France?" "Yes." Or there were a few times in which they just hung up. And they always asked who I was just to make sure I wasn't that bad influence, Sara). Abi doesn't even have an e-mail address. Does she live in the dark ages??? :) And I don't have her mobile number. Sara hasn't replied to any texts, changes her e-mail address every so often and her mum was rather brusque when I called her last.

Bah. I'll have to just call even though I always feel deadly embarrassed talking to Abi's parents, if they're even still in the UK. I should get in touch with other people too. And call some Cambridge people. I actually miss Cambridge now. I don't think any of my friends there have this address. This is probably because I tend to let people find the diary, not e-mail the address to them all.

Random word for today: snit
