She is leaving...
Friday, Mar. 08, 2002 - 12:42 This morning, we got the leaving arrangements. A little early, perhaps, but we'll need to know eventually. For the first time, I realised. I'm leaving. Sara, Abi, Chris - Duck, James, Ricci, Mark, David, Lucy, Kayleigh, Connie, Rory - Elaine - none of them are coming with me. And whilst on Wednesday I was wandering around the university brimming with excitement at the new life, I suddenly felt like I wanted to - cry? I'm leaving school in June and I don't even know if after that I'll see any of them again. Of course, I'll try. I don't mean to be self-pitying - I knew this had to happen and I'm glad about uni, and about the new life, and about how exciting it's going to be, going out alone. But - I'm on the beginning of saying goodbye to a great big chunk of my life. Not just school, but church, the area - I might never live around here again. I'll probably embarrass myself by saying it, but I actually love this place. Since being the quiet weirdo in Year 7, I gradually chipped away at school life until I got something that was pretty damn good - not perfect, but certainly good. I know many people aren't that lucky. I can't help but feel affectionate of practically everything about it. This library with its books, computers, and New Scientist. The scabby old study room that got covered in spray can snow over Christmas. My insane teachers. The Christian Union. And, as I said, my friends. What could I do without them? Anyways, I guess I've suddenly decided I want to make the most of what I have left. Because, as Elaine so correctly pointed out - I'm getting sentimental!
