Picking and Sweeping
2001-05-07 - 19:39

Ah, the Noise.

Cool.

Felt really close to God, and joyful as I went about my stuff today. It's such a privelege to serve, even if it's only picking up litter. It was nice being out in the open, and I sang stuff whilst I worked. Fool for Christ I am not. More of a lunatic :-)

Feeling vaguely jealous of Christina who had a real spirit-filled time :-) She was really hyper as she called me, but in a way I prefer just peacefully knowing that Jesus is with me. Seems more real to me, although Chris would probably disagree! We finished early, and I went with Emma, Helen, Pete and Joe (I am probably never going to mention these people again, but I'll tell you their names anyway.) We went to the Sweeps Festival and seeing as I had no money, I didn't buy anything at all. Emma bought me a Lilt and an Eccles cake, which was nice of her. They were going up to the pub, so I eventually split off to walk home. Not in the mood for sitting in the deserted bus station waiting for a bus, so I'd already decided to walk. Even though my legs were killing me. I'd prayed to meet my friends (as in Abi, Saz, Chelle, and the rest of the mad bunch) in Rochester, because any Festival is much better when you're with close friends, and although I like the St. Justus lot, I feel a bit out of place.

I saw Mariah, briefly. I saw Judith and Steve looking at chimney brushes (!!!). I decided to walk up to the castle grounds a bit before going home, and as I turned off the high street, almost silhouetted by sunlight, were the backs of two familiar people.

Sara and Ellie!!

It was just perfect. I ran up and said hi, and there was hugging and tears at our reunion. Not really. But we went up to the castle to meet Abi, Chelle, Dave, and their new mates. There was a massive group of them; the usual kind of mates that my friends seem to make! Rock fans, punks, and grungies. They were drinking Fosters, and I tried some, and all I can say is, watery and bad after-taste. Abi was wildly madly glad to see me, and I her :-). It felt great, after such a lovely quiet day clearing litter and singing praise, to suddenly find my greatest friends, minus Nicola (who's in Northampton this bank holiday) and Chris (who I'd seen that morning). I didn't get much time to talk, as I needed to call Mum and tell her I was coming home, and the time I'd be back, and when I haggled for a return time, she said 6:30, which meant I would have to leave in about a quarter of an hour. So I went back to the castle and found only a couple of crushed Fosters cans and a Diggerland leaflet.

After some frantic searching, during which I was rather cold as I'd left my jumper with Chelle, I found them down by the cathedral, having moved on because they were getting strange looks 'from the cops', and was in a considerably better mood after putting my jumper back on (in truth, it's really my answer to a security blanket), but had to say goodbye as I had an hour to get home in. Got hugs (and kisses :-) ) again, and rather exhaustedly made my way back, but made good time and got back fifteen minutes early.

It's taken me considerable time to complete this entry, as I've also made salad and had a barbecue for tea. Nice! But it was a great day, not quite perfect but nearing it.

Oh, and my brother signed my guestbook. Isn't that nice of him?
