And I love you for the cross
Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002 - 08:59 OK, that was a weird dream. I dreamt that we put on a passion play and I played Jesus. I think it was because I have traditional Jesus hair (actually it's a little short, and a little too purple at the moment), but I know from Son of God that Jesus would have had short hair - however the guy playing Pontius Pilate was wearing a suit, so that's all right then. Actually, it's disturbing. As is the way with dreams, it didn't seem ridiculous at all that I, a girl, was playing Jesus. (The weirdest thing about the dream was that I was wearing a WWJD? necklace... V. good acting tip.) I think it was meant to be making a statement about what Easter is really about, or something. It makes me think about the Cross again. I will love You for the cross, and I will love You for the cost: Man of sufferings, bringer of my peace. You came into a world of shame, and paid the price we could not pay: death that brought me life, blood that brought me home. And I love You for the cross, I’m overwhelmed by the mystery. I love You for the cost, that Jesus, You would do this for me. When You were broken, You were beaten, You were punished, I go free. When you were wounded and rejected, in Your mercy, I am healed. (Matt and Beth Redman, 1998 Kingsway's Thankyou Music) In my Youth Bible, I am informed Jewish Law prohibited trials at night, during Passover, and without legitimate witnesses - all of which happened in Jesus's trial. Betrayed by a friend. Abandoned by the rest of them. Whipped and mocked and ignored by the crowds who prefered to free a murderer. Forced to carry his own cross part of the way there. And crucifixion itself, which is a horrible, cruel and painful death - and that he was separated from his Father God as he died. I remember hearing that for the film Life of Brian, in which the last scene is the crucifixion, that the guys on the crosses originally had crosses tailored specifically to their height so they were there in (reasonable) comfort. They had a foot rest so they could breathe all right. However, they were forced to swap crosses due to some rearranging, and were actually singing Always look on the Bright Side of Life in considerable pain (not to mention they were cold up there). If it was like that for a film (and a comedy at that), just imagine what it was like in real life... As God, almighty and all powerful, the worst we can do is upset him. As a human, just look what we can do to him. Thanks Becky for signing my guestbook :D *hugs* and thank you for your prayers. Thank you Mamahen, too. Your diary is cool...
