You know, you shouldn't let yourself be distracted, even from cool things like the Goblet of Fire trailer because you never know what might happen. You might, for example end up closing the Diaryland window when you've half-written an entry. Poo.
I would like to be the kind of diarist/blogger who consistently writes poetic, amusing, thought-provoking, interesting, or at the very least, coherent entries. How does everyone else do it? My diary, like my room, is a mess. *sigh*.
So, I thought I'd get nice and organised and post my to-do list. I'm sure you'll feel edified by its contents.
1. Write a to-do list.
2. Write up project report.
a. E-mail ex-boss and apologise profusely for not e-mailing earlier.
b. Add pictures, with captions.
c. Add more to results section.
d. Add much more to discussion section.
e. Add more to introduction.
f. Check.
g. E-mail to ex-boss so he can rip it to shreds.
h. Repeat steps 2b-g as needed.
3. Tidy room.
a. Sort out paper.
i. Throw away rubbish.
ii. Put all important documents into one box so I can find them.
iii. File all unimportant stuff I want to keep.
iv. Type up scribblings, and throw away originals except for a few to sell at auctions when I'm rich and famous.
v. Go to WHSmiths and buy more filing stuff.
vi. Dig out lecture notes, make sure they are in order, make an attempt to read them, or at least look at the pictures.
Additional thoughts while I think of it - see how much it costs to buy a mini-disc recorder or similar and record lectures to make up for terrible note-taking abilities. Also look into solutions for terrible getting-out-of-bed abilities. Consider actually going to bed earlier.
b. Sort out non-paper. Throw away rubbish. Look into methods of storing other non-paper items.
c. Find books/videos I want to sell. Sell them. Release some books onto Book Crossing.
d. Sort clothes. Give old ones to charity shops or to be recycled.
e. Pack for moving back to York.
4. Sort out websites etc.
a. Actually e-mail people for once in my life. (Hi Sarah Joy!)
b. Find all of friends' diaries/journals/blogs and put on one links page.
c. Find websites for people who aren't my friends but I wish they were.
d. Update links page in general. It's a mess.
e. Add new material to website.
f. Synchronise websites a bit more.
g. I've been wanting, for about a month now, to start a blog about Jesus and thoughts on the gospels. Not that I can't post them here, just that I've been wanting to set up some kind of website about Jesus for a while now, and a blog would be a good place to start whilst I accumulate some more website knowledge and some actual material to post on website.
h. Sort out whatever Firefox's problem with log-in pages is. It's beginning to get on my nerves.
5. Creative fun stuff.
a. I was thinking of a couple of narrative poems.
b. Make some t-shirt designs. I want one that says, I couldn't be an atheist, I just don't have the faith. (It's true, you know)
c. Write some more stories. I've had trouble getting down to that lately.
d. I had an idea for a comedy musical. Hmm. Doubt it'll get anywhere, but hey. It was probably one of those things that seemed funny at the time. Still, should write a plan and see what happens.
6. Would it kill me to be sociable?
a. Visit my sister, visit my brother, visit my grandma, and anyone else I haven't seen in a while.
b. Call some people I haven't spoken to in a while. Check up on uni friends. Call Cambridge friends and let them know I haven't forgotten them. Re-aquaint myself with people in my phone book.
c. E-mail new housemates to let them know I'm alive and when I'm planning on moving in.
7. God stuff.
a. Read through gospels again and finish The Jesus I Never Knew by Philip Yancey. Remind myself of who Jesus is, why he's so great and why I follow him!
b. Pray through anything that's bothering me. It occurred to me today that if lots of people are having their faith shaken by The Da Vinci Code (for example) then it was probably in trouble to start with. I remember a preacher saying that doubt is not the enemy of faith, in fact it exists so that you can sort out true and false. In the same way, I don't believe that God wants us to swallow our doubts but to be honest about them. That way faith gets stronger, not weaker :)
c. Pray for everyone! well, people who need it :)
d. I can't think of anything else. Read the Bible and pray... how original :)
e. Ooh wait, I can think of something. It occurred to me today that I find it really awkward talking about anything that might upset anyone. Even if it's good advice (like, hey Stinky, go have a shower. That sort of thing). To be honest, though it's nice to be nice I need to remind myself that my worth comes from God so even if I do upset someone, it's not always my problem. You've got to please the guy with the gold standard before you start pleasing by everyone else's standards. I mean, I even feel embarrassed confessing something that might make me look a bit naff, like how I don't really like clubbing, or how I still think children's literature comprises most of the good stuff on the market. Even though most people actually don't think Christians are losers, I still often want to run and hide rather than introduce myself to them with, "Hi, I'm Helen and I'm a Christian." If they don't like that, it's their problem :) As for me, I'm a Christian. Jesus took all the crap I've done and died with it. God loves me and actually he loves everyone else too. And if you want to meet Jesus, ask me how :)
f. You know, a few months ago I wandered around thinking about how God appreciates even the talents that we just use for fun. He made such a lot of things 'just because' (forgive me for presuming to guess at the Almighty's brain processes, but at least that's what I've always thought. Anyone who didn't enjoy things just for what they are would have to think twice before creating the planet Saturn, duck-billed platipi, bananas, dreams and the amazing brains who invented beermat flipping). It occurred to me that even when we enjoy our talents in a 'secular' sense, we're still honouring the creator who gave them to us for our enjoyment. Then it occurred to me that since God likes it when we appreciate his creation, he'd like it if people knew that he gave them their talents and they'd probably be quite surprised at actually how interesting and creative God is. Not sure how this links in to a 'to do' point, but I'm sure I can think of something.
8. Stop procrastinating. Procrastination is the thief of time.
