For once, too Evangelical :)
Tuesday, Dec. 02, 2003 - 14:41 My birthday tomorrow. Wow. Heh, I have so many books to read - Grandma and Jim got me 'Tomorrow's People' by Susan Greenfield (she rocks), Mum and Dad got me 'Genome' by Matt Ridley, 'The Double Helix' by James Watson, and 'Rosalind Franklin - The Dark Lady of DNA' by Brenda Maddox. And Christina sent me 'The Gospel According to The Simpsons' and a book called 'A Heart Ablaze' by John Bevere through the post. Which I opened today despite the fact that my birthday's tomorrow. Yup, I'm impatient. Also Nicky got me a Delirious live album :D It was nice to go home for the weekend. Home roast is much nicer than campus roast ;) plus just playing Balderdash and making daft jokes is lots of fun. And I got to see my cousins - they argued over whether to watch Duckula or Dangermouse, so we watched both (my diplomacy skills sometimes work :) ) I met an art teacher on the train back. I was writing a presentation on my laptop, so I told him about DNA sequencing (well, what I could remember anyway) and bacteria, and he told me about teaching and when I told him I wanted to be a teacher he said it was excellent and there were tons of great opportunities. Then he took me through a brochure for an international school in Thailand. I liked him. I've been putting off helping out in the kid's club on Saturdays. But it's niggling at my brain. I just feel - useless about it. You know, like I'd be rubbish at it and they'd run riot and it would be awful. It's silly. I was talking to God whilst wandering to campus and I thought about it again. It was as if God was saying, 'Look, I'm not asking you to dump everything and go and live with the poor of Calcutta, but this is something I want you to do whilst you're here and since you actually want to do it, it's not too much to ask, is it?' He's got a point. Speaking of faith issues, curiously enough for the Liberal Backslider that is moi, I was actually picked up on for being too Evangelical (capital E is there for a reason). I put some posters up for the gospel choir we're starting and Ayeesha questioned my words 'Would you like to communicate your faith through music?' "If we want to attract non-Christians..." I can see her point, but there's a difference between being 'Inyerface' with faith and being honest. If people don't want to go to something run by Christians, they won't go, and it's pointless trying to conceal the fact if it means that they'll just come and wish they hadn't.
