EXAMS ARE OVER!! WOOHOO!!

Skip exam stuff

Had English Lit. this morning. Arcadia by Tom Stoppard and The Wife of Bath's Prologue by Geoffrey Chaucer (Chowka, as we like to call him. Or I like to call him, at least.) The Stoppard questions were evil - one was about whether it's successful as a drama or a philosophical exploration, and the other was on the importance of Lord Byron in the play, despite the fact that he's never actually on stage. I did the Byron one, and just couldn't get started on it properly, but I eventually managed to get an essay out of the works. The Wife of Bath one was either an ambiguous question on her 'wanderings' (huh??) and another one about male attitudes to women in the 14th century. I did the second one - much easier, plus my knowledge from outside the text (OK, so I mostly got it from the notes in the back of the book) ought to help.

On Saturday I went to the Bandstand BBQ concert, to see the Tribe (a Christian rap band) and supporting bands. Would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't been feeling so tired, and probably if I'd known a few more people there - there were people from GB and the Youth Group - Charlie, Claire, Miriam and Lisa; but I don't generally feel part of the group, if you see what I mean. The people I mostly hung around with were Christina, James (See Cast), Naomi, Flash (See Cast) and Flash's girlfriend Helen. I also saw Lucy with a girl whose name I don't know. Ricci was going to come, but he wasn't feeling so great because of a hospital appointment he had. Not sure what for, so I'll have to call him tonight. I don't think he'd have enjoyed it that much anyway (doesn't strike me as his kind of event!), but I missed him :-) He's my brother. According to him, anyway. It's a bizarre relationship that we have. But I like bizarreness. :-) Chris introduced me to the 'Sheppey lot' and I've already forgotten their names...

Before the Tribe, it took a while to get the event going. Heard a band playing a rocked-up version of Matt Redman's 'It's Rising Up' of all things (although I admit, there are many other Matt Redman songs that would sound much worse rocked up) and eventually they cleared the stage for the Tribe to come on.

I was a bit sceptical at first. I don't really do rap, so I needed convincing. I fact, let's just say I don't do rap at all. Actually, for a rap band, they were really good, and certainly Jesus-centred. Couldn't listen to their stuff all the time, but I'd go to see them again. Next time, though, I'll stand further from the speakers. Felt deaf in one ear afterwards! I lent Naomi my pad to get one of the guys' autograph (She thought he was gorgeous. His name was Quinton or Quentin or something like that! I'll have to look them up on the internet to find out.) Moved around to talk to other people, although most of the people I knew there were already engrossed in conversations with people they knew better than they knew me, and couldn't help feeling a bit isolated. After Naomi eventually got Q's autograph and Chris had got a few that she wanted, we left and Chris stayed over for the night. Not before, however, I heard a voice and saw a girl I was pretty certain I didn't recognise. And the weirder thing was, she knew my name. OK, I thought, either my fame has spread or it's a weird person who for some reason knows my name because she's stalking me or something. And my fame spreading seems pretty unlikely when Malcolm from Church, whom I recognised immediately, didn't appear to know who I was. It was Katie from my primary school!! Wow! We hugged, and afterwards I realised that that's the first time we've ever hugged. I remember Chris saying she'd become a Christian, but it was still a nice surprise.

Got home and went to bed. Despite my tiredness, it still took me ages to get to sleep.

Church was quite good. I went in the morning, so the songs were mostly kiddies' ones (excuse the patronising term, but they were rather patronising songs) but never mind, the sermon was good.

We didn't meet up at Claire's, and I went home to have a barbecue for Father's Day with Clive, Mum, Stephen, Nicky and Jonathan. It was a lovely dinner, and then Stephen went to have a rest (he'd been to London to do something or other) and the rest of us played Balderdash. Very amusing. As inspired by the game, I now have a drawing of a vampire rabbit with a large Elvis-style quiff, dwarfing a sketchily drawn New York on my notice board. You've have to be there to understand :-)
