As of tomorrow, you're an adult. Have fun...
Saturday, Oct. 05, 2002 - 19:53 Tomorrow I will be in York. I swear, the only way they get us to agree to university is by creeping it up on us. If there was some amazing way you could just go the day after your exam results, knowing everything that was involved, no one would. As it is, it's still surreal. And very, very frightening. But hell, is it exciting :) All the scariest things are. Well all the scariest non-evil things are :) I have worked my last shifts at work until Christmas. Tomorrow I'm off, registration information, computer bits (plus printer!! whoo!), clothes, food, piles of stationery all in tow, cardboard boxes everywhere. There is something very odd about buying saucepans and utensils with the sense that these are mine, not borrowed, the kind of thing an adult needs. Starting tomorrow, I'm taking care of myself. (As I told Mum today, I don't trust myself with my life :) ) It's sort of funny that I decided not to take a gap year, but the one I was planning on doing would have probably been a gentler introduction to all this taking care of oneself business... In the end, I think I was more afraid of being away from home for as long as I would have been. Ironic. I haven't packed the elephant bookends... maybe I should have :) I have got a few books. Not all the ones I intended to take. I think I put in all my Christian books, not me being spiritual but a kind of desperation for when the going gets tough (if a situation is hard, throw a book at it, that's my solution :) ). I've got 'Kim' by Rudyard Kipling, simply because I haven't read it yet. I've got two teddies! Christina came over today and gave me the cutest little teddy with 'Friends Always' on it! I can't believe that we're finally going to be apart. I'm going to be looking for new friends in York. Of course, I've always got Keith (shut up Nicola. Just shut up, I can hear you thinking :) ), and Jennie who I met at Soul Survivor. I've received e-mails via Fusion and discovered that there are two other Helens in my college! Together we are Helen A, Helen B and Helen C. hehe. Christina's present is called Colin, by the way :) I like the name Colin, and it reminds my of my Mum's cousin who is ashamed to be thirty (he's now thirty-one) and claimed to have dated a famous model for three weeks. A three week date, in fact. He claims. Mum doesn't believe him. I don't know why I wanted to name a teddy after him, it just struck me as funny :) Stephen popped around whilst I was writing this entry (actually I also had dinner in that time, it's now ten to ten) which was rather nice. I've had two glasses of wine and I'm feeling tipsy... oo-er :) But I can still type, until Nicola and 'Jime' her step stpe mfather gand (that was meant to say 'step step Grandfather'... lol :) ). Tomorrow is going to be interesting. Stephen said he might visit me sometime - he has to go to all sorts of places for work. I'm soooo excited. I'm soooo scared... I got a copy of the Message Bible yesterday - it's a Bible paraphrase by Eugene H. Peterson. I read through the entire gospel of Matthew, totally riveted. The style is so readable! It's not a good Bible for looking up passages, and sometimes it sounds a little too modern. But it's an awesome Bible to read, the way it's written takes away the clumsiness that often seems to be there in other translations. It's so utterly clear, it's modern but it has the timeless quality that should go along with the word of Jesus. But it gives a new fresh perspective to it. I can't quite remember what it was that made me think of this, but isn't life beautiful? :) It might have been Work, actually. I've become excited at the possibility of serving others. It really is incredible, the amount of happiness we can bring into each other's lives. Maybe it was this article, I'm not sure :) It's good to do good. And life is so lovely. I mean, just watch the seasons changing or spend some time chatting with someone about what they enjoy, and hopefully you'll catch what I mean :) Random word for today: Petrified << last entry ... next entry >> Interesting doughnuts - Sunday, Feb. 05, 2006 Blogging, why? - Friday, Feb. 03, 2006 Dreams, climate change - Friday, Feb. 03, 2006 In the shadows - Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006 |
