Warts 'n' all

Hiya... Kept meaning to write and didn't (also I keep meaning to e-mail Nim and don't... forgive me Nim, and thank you for your nice guestbook signing :) ). Incidentally I've updated the cast on my 'About Me' page so if the names don't look familiar, take a look.

So... It's JustAboutEverything Week at university, a triple feast of RAG, Christian Union mission and Students Against the War week of action. Ooh, and apparently 'V-week' as well.

I went to my student tutoring again today. They had a substitute teacher who was pretty cool, but afterwards she revealed that she'd found them incredibly rowdy. Yup. She handled the class really well though.

Aaw, I love them to pieces. I even got two hugs today (!!) One girl said something rather odd to me today: "You're different."

"Why?"

"I dunno."

"Oh... I feel strange now," I say, smiling.

"No... everyone's strange. You're normal. That's why you're different."

I think that's a compliment :) Certainly it's my desire to be as real as possible, I've learned that being yourself (warts 'n' all) really encourages people. I think I noticed this in my stories when on Fanfiction.net I posted a story about a girl who is pretty rubbish at most things (not saying that I am, but I tend to cast my characters as brilliant at everything) and got lots of comments saying how likeable she is. Also I was particularly touched because the supply teacher was doing a sort of rhythm-y handjive type thing with them and when she told them to ad lib, I decided to do the Macarena (!). And after this she still thought I was normal. Or perhaps I'm just hopelessly banal.

I got someone's name wrong several times today *blush*, and he was a boy who gave me a poem as a present and signed it... At least I used a similar name, he might not have noticed :)

*sigh* Sometimes I find my corridor a bit difficult to live with. Well, not Laura, Elle or Stuart, but the other four! Well, maybe three :) It's not that I don't like them, or anything like that, they're all right, it's just silly little things get on my nerves (I'd like to know who's stealing my bread - Ozzy denies it, says he's living on crumpets, so I say fair enough... Feel a bit guilty for accusing him, really). Like leaving the fridge wide open or the piles of dirty things to be washed up or using my things and then not washing them! I always try to use my things and if I don't I usually wash up... Once I didn't and I got a note on my door (although admittedly, Matthew's absinthe-imitation-type-thing - I didn't drink it, it smells horrible and does your brain in - is not a nice thing to find in your mug). They're generally nice in other respects, however. *Sigh* I'm having to remind myself that 'It is better to be kind than right'. In certain respects, anyway :) Or to be more specific, it is better to overlook little things that don't matter in the grand scheme of things for the sake of love, rather than pick on them and cause silly arguments...

*Sigh* I went to Church Sunday. I still feel rather lost Church-wise. I'm still rather in angst as far as Small Groups are concerned. Everyone I've spoken to bar one (who said it was scary) says that Small Bible Study Groups are wonderful, and I'm sure they are, but I don't want to subscribe to the CU's way of doing things... am I being needlessly stubborn? Ah yes, Meg said she was in an anarchic small group who didn't really like the CU :) But it looks like it's going to be several millenia before Christian Focus get their small groups organised. Although I have an idea to help them out :) (It's a sign-up sheet, product of Microsoft Word... v. simple)

What else? Um... I deleted a sorta nasty comment I made about the Christian Union at the top of this entry and I'm still sounding my most fallible today.

Ooh yes, and I'm writing an essay on prions!!! :) Actually it's very interesting.

And Blind Man's Buff may just be the most fun game ever. Seriously :) We played it yesterday at 'Childhood Regression Night'. Even though when I was the blind person I caught Matthew first (he was trying to get caught), laughed and let go, and ended up catching Dr. Who James. Although he caught me later and claimed he thought I was Gary :)

Aaah... and we quarrelled over Pictionary, then Katherine (secretary of Dougsoc) said, "Now you remember what it was really like being a child."

Hahahahaha :)

Random word for today: Regression
