The revised what-I-want-to-do-with-my-life list

Follow God: Pretty essential really. WWJD.

Get a job that serves people: I want to help people. Helping people is so great it amazes me people don't do it more often. It's so fulfilling that it a wonder people call it sacrificing! (it is not foolish to give up what you cannot keep for what you cannot lose)

Be a teacher: Children are so refreshing, so full of ideas. They realise that enjoyable things aren't all illegal, immoral or fattening. I want to give them an energy for life, a confidence to attempt what they dream about. And I want to learn from them too. Ideally, this will be the job that serves people.

Be a volunteer: Well, I am one, but that's a long term plan, at least until the teaching stuff happens. Ideas after Faith and Light are... schools work, the Samaritans, helping out disabled people, helping out homeless people.

Get a good degree: I want to serve God with my best. The qualifications are part of that. A-levels, obviously, must make it to my university offer, ABC. So I must work hard at Biochemistry.

Get something published!!: Lately I've had overflowing inspiration for stories, mainly due to Fanfiction.net and I ought to do something with it.

Learn lots of stuff about science: To enhance my view of the world, to understand how great God is, to generally keep interested and to understand all those scientific arguments for and against God, which are the ones that interest me most at the moment.

Get married: eventually.

Have children: Or adopt.

Travel: Africa and South America are high on my list. Kenya, Egypt, South Africa - Peru, Brazil, Chile - fantastic. Russia and China and Japan would also be nice. Australia would be awesome. Also, I would like to do aid work. I'd like to be a teacher in those places that really need them. But everywhere really needs teachers! But working in Africa - places like Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, Angola... teachers are so needed.

Visit persecuted Christians: Because they need to know that the rest of us care about them, because their stories need to be told, and because God speaks through them so powerfully.

They've been changed a little since I last wrote my goals. I guess they're simpler, and more based on happiness and fulfillment that achievements.

Incidentally, in the latter months of 2000 I found an advert in a Big Issue about volunteer work that tempted me. I wanted to get up, give up school and go do it, figuring I'd be much more content that way. I didn't, figured it was ridiculous. I found that advert again in another Big Issue (incidentally, do buy this magazine, it's cheap and the articles are interesting) and it stuck me as a great idea for a gap year. If I'd arranged it when I originally saw the advert, it would have been much easier... which just goes to show, don't just stand on the platform, catch that train. Whilst you can catch a later one, it'll be a less stressful ride if you know you're well on time. Metaphors rule.

Weirdly, the html name for this page is the same as Nicola's entry for today. How bizarre.
