Work troubles!
Sunday, May. 12, 2002 - 09:26 Bad start to work yesterday - got in to discover I'd missed a staff meeting (in fact, I slept through it!) that I hadn't even noticed the sign for. The people in the staff room reckoned I'd get a warning. Adgie, one of the managers, called me through to the office, me trailing behind apologising and telling her adamantly that I didn't know it was on. I mean, I spend about ten minutes total in the staff room per week, how can they expect me to notice that sign as anything new when there are always a few irrelevent signs in there anyway? She and Sam, the general manager, told me it was all right, and they'd try and let me know next time. They still haven't remembered that I still need training (because of a similar incident, in fact - I missed the session due to not knowing about the schedule on the staff room notice board). Then I went downstairs, and Sarah, who's usually on similar stuff to me, said she'd missed the meeting too, because she hadn't seen the notice, and she'd received an official warning. Then I felt really bad, as if I'd cheated her somehow by getting off lightly. Then about an hour later someone found a hair in one of the salad dressings. I ended up throwing the lot away and preparing some new. Still fuming that the only time they seem to remember me is when I do something wrong. Emma, a waitress (official, as opposed to a cleaning tables/preparing salad/seeing to customers waiting to be seated person), asked me what I'd done with the hair, and I told her, and then she said that they have to send it off somewhere. No one told me this... and for heaven's sake, why? So they can create a DNA profile to add to their file of malicious contaminators of salad products? Anyways, I was by now feeling less than cheerful. Prayed about it a bit and tried to think of ways to cheer myself up. Kerry, who I sometimes see on the bus up, was outside on a cigarette break as I went to throw some cardboard boxes away, so I stopped to chat for a minute. She told me I hadn't missed much, and apparently I'm more believable than Sarah... ah well. It did cheer me up a little talking to someone who wasn't moaning because I missed the staff meeting, or telling me they were punished and I wasn't for something we both did, or telling me I'm meant to preserve the hairs people moult into the salad dressing. Well, I did perk up a bit after that. Most of the staff come to where the salad is prepared to have a drink, especially Emma, and sometimes Sian and Kerry. It wasn't too bad. When I got home, Mum and I had a play with the Harry Potter DVD Clive bought... yay :) For some reason, there are Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans all over the place on the second DVD... seems like in most features you'll come across a box. Ooh yes, and I notice that Julie Queen of Sporks has listed me as a favourite :D This is cool as I've been a fan of her excellent diary for ages. Go read it :) Random word for today: << last entry ... next entry >> Interesting doughnuts - Sunday, Feb. 05, 2006 Blogging, why? - Friday, Feb. 03, 2006 Dreams, climate change - Friday, Feb. 03, 2006 In the shadows - Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006 |
