This month's Poetica Collab project...

Write a poem about an obsession or a compulsion you or someone else may have.

The Writer

The world chugs on in inexorable pace,
And I am a writer...
I catch the moments in their aimless drift,
I string words like beads onto necklaces,
This I must do.

So steal my paper, yet I will write,
I will colour the bleakness with poetry;
I will write on the stately walls of dogma,
I will scrawl on false dignity, childlike prose...
I will write on the skin, on the outside,
The truth that remains within.

My prison bars would be riddled with stanzas,
My chains would carry their own weight of words.
The night seems pitch dark, I’ll write the moon bright,
Try and take my freedom – yet I will write, I will write.
